Tile Saws

The right tile saw depends on the material, tile size, required cuts, cutting capacity, and jobsite conditions. Wet, dry, tabletop, handheld, and bridge tile saws provide different advantages, so the saw should be selected based on the specific cutting requirements rather than tile material alone.

Tile saws can be used to cut materials such as ceramic tile, porcelain tile, natural stone, and pavers when the saw and diamond blade are compatible with the material. Cutting capabilities vary between machines, so blade specifications, saw capacity, and manufacturer recommendations should be checked before cutting.

Wet tile saws deliver water to the blade during cutting to help manage blade heat and airborne dust. Dry tile saws operate without a water-feed system and can provide greater flexibility where wet cutting is impractical, provided the saw and blade are designed for the intended dry cutting application.

Large-format tile requires a saw with enough cutting length and material support for the dimensions being cut. Bridge tile saws and other extended-capacity systems are commonly suited to oversized materials because their designs can accommodate longer cuts while keeping the tile supported during cutting.

Many tile saws can cut porcelain when equipped with a compatible diamond blade designed for porcelain. Because porcelain is dense, the saw's power, cutting capacity, blade selection, and cutting method should be appropriate for the specific material and thickness being worked with.

A bridge tile saw uses a cutting head that travels along an overhead bridge or rail while the tile remains supported on the work table. This configuration is commonly used when longer cutting capacity and stable material support are needed for large-format porcelain, stone, and other oversized materials.

Handheld tile saws are useful when portability or moving the cutting tool across the material is preferable to feeding tile through a stationary saw. Depending on the model, they can be suited to jobsite cutting, plunge cuts, oversized materials, and other applications where a compact cutting system is beneficial.

Match the diamond blade to the material, saw, blade diameter, arbor, and intended wet or dry cutting method. Porcelain, ceramic, glass, stone, and masonry can require different blade designs, so compatibility with both the material and the tile saw should be confirmed before selecting a blade.
