Shower Kits

Shower kit contents vary by manufacturer and system. Depending on the kit, components can include a shower base, drain, waterproofing membrane, bands, seals, curb, wall panels, fasteners, sealants, or other installation accessories. Check the individual kit contents rather than assuming every product required for the shower is included.

A complete tile shower kit combines multiple compatible components for constructing a tiled shower assembly. Kits can coordinate the shower floor, waterproofing, drainage, walls, and entrance components within one system. The meaning of "complete" varies between manufacturers, so additional installation materials can still be required.

A curbless shower kit provides components for constructing a shower without a conventional raised entrance curb. Depending on the system, it can use a recessed base, ramp, or another transition method. Proper floor elevations, drainage slope, waterproofing, and surrounding bathroom construction are still required for the completed installation.

Linear drain shower kits use an elongated channel drain and can use a primarily single-direction shower floor slope depending on the system. Point drain kits direct water toward a smaller drain opening, which can be positioned in the center, offset, or at another specified location within the shower base.

Shower kits designed for tub-to-shower conversions can provide components for replacing a bathtub area with a tiled shower. Some are configured around common tub dimensions or plumbing locations. Existing drain placement, subfloor condition, framing, available dimensions, and waterproofing requirements should be checked before selecting a conversion kit.

Shower kits are available for both curbed and curbless designs, but the components and installation requirements differ. Curbed systems use a raised entrance, while curbless systems require coordination of shower and bathroom floor elevations. Select a kit specifically designed for the type of shower being constructed.

Many tile shower kits support compatible ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone finishes, but tile requirements vary by system. Tile size, material, setting products, shower floor slope, drain configuration, and substrate can affect compatibility. Verify the shower system and setting material requirements for the selected tile before installation.

Start with the available shower dimensions, drain position, and desired curbed or curbless design. Compare shower base size, point or linear drainage, waterproofing system, wall construction, included components, and finished tile requirements. For remodeling projects, also account for existing plumbing, framing, and subfloor conditions.
