The membrane can be applied with thinset over dry, flat, and structurally sound surfaces to protect continuous wet areas such as showers and bathrooms from moisture penetration. Its vapor-barrier properties also make it suitable for steam room installations when installed as part of the complete Blanke system.
In addition to waterproofing, AQUA SHIELD provides crack isolation and uncoupling properties that help reduce stress transferred from the substrate to the finished tile covering. Its layered mesh structure bonds with thinset to reinforce wood substrates, reduce deflection, and provide additional compression and tensile strength beneath the finished tile covering. It can also provide reinforcement and crack isolation protection when installed over suitable cement-based substrates.
At only 1/8 inch thick, PERMAT provides substantial reinforcement while helping minimize the transition height between tile and adjacent flooring. The lightweight sheets are installed with thinset and do not require mechanical fasteners or taped seams. PERMAT is especially useful when substrate reinforcement, load distribution, and support for demanding tile installations are greater priorities than basic uncoupling alone.
Blanke SECUMAT Uncoupling and Crack Isolation Underlayment
Blanke SECUMAT is a low-profile rolled uncoupling underlayment for ceramic tile and natural stone installations on interior floors and walls. Its reinforced layered construction creates a stress-absorbing layer between the substrate and tile covering, helping prevent lateral substrate movement from transferring directly into the finished surface.
SECUMAT can be installed over approved wood and cement substrates and is suitable for tile sizes ranging from mosaics to large-format tile. Its thin construction helps limit overall assembly height, while the lightweight roll format makes the material easy to cut, position, and embed in thinset. It can be used across an entire installation or in selected areas where localized crack isolation is required.
