wedi® Shower Niches are prefabricated, tile-ready recessed niches designed to provide built-in storage in tiled shower walls. Each niche is constructed from 1/2" wedi Building Panel, providing a waterproof substrate that integrates directly into wedi shower wall assemblies. Multiple sizes are available for different storage requirements, from compact niches for smaller shower essentials to taller configurations with shelves for organizing multiple items.
Waterproof Closed-Cell Foam Construction
The niche construction uses a closed-cell extruded polystyrene foam core that is waterproof, mold-proof, and insulating. Unlike assemblies that rely on a separate surface-applied waterproofing layer over the entire niche, the wedi Building Panel core itself is waterproof. This construction makes the niches suitable for recessed installations in tiled showers and other wet-area wall applications.
Reinforced Tile-Ready Bonding Surface
Both sides of the Building Panel are covered with fiberglass mesh embedded in a cement resin coating. This reinforced surface provides tile backing strength while the textured surface gives thin-set mortar a mechanical bonding surface. Once the niche is properly installed and sealed into the surrounding wedi assembly, tile can be installed directly over the prepared surface.
Flush Integration with wedi Wall Panels
wedi Shower Niches are designed to install flush within wedi wall panel assemblies using wedi fasteners and wedi Joint Sealant. The prefabricated construction eliminates the need to build the niche cavity from individual backer board pieces, helping simplify installation while maintaining integration with the surrounding waterproof shower system.
Multiple Sizes with Optional Adjustable Shelves
The niches are available in seven overall sizes ranging from 16" x 12" to 16" x 42", with a consistent 12" interior width and 3-1/2" interior depth. Smaller models provide an open storage compartment without a shelf, while select taller models include one or two 2" shelves. Included shelves are optional and can be positioned where they best accommodate the shower design, storage requirements, and tile layout.
