BLUE BEAR® BEAN•e•doo® 500MR Mastic Remover is a soy-based formula for softening and removing carpet adhesive, tile adhesive, vinyl mastic, acrylic mastic, layered adhesives, and other flooring glues from concrete. It penetrates stubborn adhesive layers so they can be removed without sanding or grinding the concrete surface.
Designed for demanding restoration work, 500MR removes newer mastics as well as adhesives that have remained in place for more than 50 years. It is effective on black mastic and can soften mastic containing asbestos when used as part of a properly managed and compliant removal process. The product does not identify asbestos or replace required testing and regulated work practices.
The biodegradable formula is made with soybeans instead of petroleum distillates. 500MR removes carpet and tile adhesives, vinyl and acrylic mastics, black mastic, layered adhesives, and older flooring glues from concrete. It is formulated specifically for concrete surfaces and should not be used on wood. Protect neighboring wood, drywall, drains, and untreated surfaces during application.
500MR can soften mastic containing asbestos, but it does not identify asbestos or eliminate exposure requirements. Suspected material must be evaluated before disturbance. Confirmed asbestos-containing mastic should be handled by trained professionals following all required containment, protective equipment, disposal procedures, and applicable regulations.
Black mastic and mastic containing asbestos generally soften within one to two hours. Vinyl and acrylic mastics typically require four to eight hours. Actual dwell time depends on the adhesive type, age, thickness, number of layers, surface condition, and temperature in the work area.
Test a small area first, then apply 500MR directly to the concrete using a straw broom, long-handled brush, or squeegee. Fully cover any trowel ridges and allow the adhesive to soften. Remove the loosened material with a long-handled scraper or floor squeegee, reapplying when necessary.
Some concrete surfaces may darken, so test 500MR in an inconspicuous area before treating the entire floor. Protect neighboring wood and drywall with a sand barrier. Use sand, Oil-Dri, or kitty litter around floor drains and low areas, and prevent overspray from reaching untreated surfaces.
After scraping away the softened mastic, clean remaining residue with BLUE BEAR Emerge 700DG Degreaser or soap and water. Rinse the concrete and test several areas with clean water. If rubbing the surface produces cloudy white water, additional 500MR residue remains and the cleaning process should be repeated.
One gallon generally covers 100 to 200 square feet. Actual coverage depends on the adhesive thickness, number of layers, concrete porosity, and required application depth. Testing a measured section before treating the entire floor provides a more accurate estimate for the specific project.
The low-odor, low-VOC formula is suitable for projects in schools, hospitals, commercial buildings, and other occupied facilities.
