About This Product

Lightweight Foam Shower Curb for Tile

The GoBoard® Shower Curb is a block-shaped tile backer profile designed to form the raised entry of a tiled shower pan. Measuring 3-1/2" high × 2-1/2" wide × 48" long, it is up to 80% lighter than other materials commonly used to fabricate shower curbs.

Cut-to-Fit Shower Pan Curb

Manufactured from high-density closed-cell polyiso, the curb cuts easily with a standard utility knife for on-site sizing. Multiple curbs can be combined for shower openings wider than 48", while an average compressive strength of 125 psi provides durable support for tiled shower assemblies.

Waterproof Shower Curb System Component

The waterproof core is compatible with GoBoard shower products and provides a tile backing surface once the complete assembly is properly installed and sealed. Required GoBoard Pro Sealant, Curb Cover, Corners, Banding, and other project-specific waterproofing accessories are sold separately.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the GoBoard Shower Curb used for?

The GoBoard Shower Curb forms the raised entry boundary of a tiled shower pan. Its block-shaped profile provides a lightweight tile backing surface that integrates with GoBoard shower components. The curb must be installed and waterproofed according to the instructions for the selected GoBoard shower assembly.

What are the dimensions and material of the GoBoard Shower Curb?

Each curb measures 3-1/2" high × 2-1/2" wide × 48" long. It is manufactured from high-density closed-cell polyiso with an average compressive strength of 125 psi. The lightweight construction makes the curb easier to handle than many traditional curb-building materials.

Is the GoBoard Shower Curb waterproof?

The closed-cell polyiso core is waterproof, but the finished curb assembly is waterproof only after all joints, transitions, and penetrations are sealed according to GoBoard instructions. GoBoard Pro Sealant and any required Curb Cover, Corners, Banding, or other waterproofing accessories are sold separately.

Is a GoBoard Curb Cover required?

The current GoBoard Curb data sheet lists a GoBoard Curb Cover as an approved waterproofing component. Exact requirements depend on the selected shower assembly. Follow the applicable GoBoard instructions to determine whether Curb Cover, GoBoard Pro Sealant, Corners, Banding, or a combination of accessories is required.

Can the GoBoard Shower Curb be cut to size?

Yes. The 48" foam shower curb can be trimmed to the required length with a standard utility knife and straightedge. Its lightweight polyiso construction allows on-site sizing without the masonry cutting associated with traditional curb materials. Measure the shower opening and account for required joint gaps before cutting.

Can multiple GoBoard Shower Curbs be combined?

Yes. Multiple GoBoard Curbs can be positioned together when the shower opening exceeds 48". Maintain the joint gaps required by the applicable installation instructions and waterproof every connection between curb sections. Additional GoBoard Pro Sealant and waterproofing accessories may be required for a wider curb assembly.

Can tile be installed directly over the GoBoard Shower Curb?

Tile can be installed over the curb after it has been securely attached and the complete assembly has been waterproofed according to GoBoard instructions. Use an approved thinset mortar for the tile installation. Do not treat the waterproof core alone as completion of the required joint and transition waterproofing.

What subfloors and bonding mortars are approved?

The GoBoard Curb data sheet permits installation over a level wood subfloor or level concrete slab. Approved bonding materials include polymer-modified thinset mortar meeting ANSI A118.4 and dry-set mortar meeting ANSI A118.1. Follow the instructions for the selected GoBoard shower system and substrate.

Can the GoBoard Shower Curb be used commercially?

Current GoBoard Shower Pan materials primarily document the system for residential tile applications. For a commercial, institutional, or other nonresidential shower, confirm the curb and complete assembly are suitable with Johns Manville and the project design professional before specifying or installing the system.
