About This Product

Liquid Waterproofing for Showers and Wet Areas

USG™ Durock® Liquid Waterproofing & Crack Isolation Membrane is an acrylic polymer-based elastomeric membrane for residential and commercial tile and stone applications. The liquid-applied membrane waterproofs floors, walls, countertops, showers, and other wet areas while also functioning as a vapor retarder over approved substrates.

Steam Shower Waterproofing and Vapor Protection

With a permeance rating of 0.38 perms at 20 mils dry thickness when tested to ASTM E96 Procedure E, the membrane can be used in continuous-use residential and commercial steam showers without an additional vapor retarder. It also bonds directly to stainless steel, PVC, and ABS drains and can be used as a shower pan liner in accordance with applicable IPC and UPC provisions specified by USG.

Crack Isolation Up to 1/8"

The membrane provides anti-fracture protection over shrinkage and other non-structural cracks up to 1/8" (3 mm). It meets ANSI A118.10 requirements for load-bearing bonded waterproof membranes and ANSI A118.12 requirements for crack isolation membranes for thin-set ceramic tile and dimension stone installations.

Roll, Brush, Trowel or Spray Application

The fast-drying liquid membrane can be applied by roller, brush, trowel, or spray and changes color when cured. Smooth vertical substrates can require one coat, while rough substrates such as Durock® Cement Board and all horizontal applications require two coats. Suitable substrates include concrete, masonry, cement backerboard, gypsum-fiber panels, and gypsum-based cement toppings.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can USG Durock Liquid Waterproofing Membrane be used in steam showers?

Yes. Its 0.38 perm rating at 20 mils dry thickness allows it to be used in continuous-use residential and commercial steam showers without an additional vapor retarder.

How much crack isolation does the membrane provide?

It provides anti-fracture protection over shrinkage and other non-structural cracks up to 1/8" (3 mm).

How can Durock Liquid Waterproofing Membrane be applied?

The liquid membrane can be applied by roller, brush, trowel, or spray.

How many coats of waterproofing membrane are required?

One coat can be used on smooth vertical substrates such as USG Fiberock® Tile Backerboard. Two coats are required on rough substrates such as USG Durock® Cement Board and for all horizontal applications.

What is the coverage per gallon?

For waterproofing on smooth substrates, coverage is approximately 80–100 sq. ft. per gallon with one coat or 40–50 sq. ft. per gallon with two coats. For crack isolation, coverage is approximately 25–30 sq. ft. per gallon with two coats. Coverage decreases on porous or rough substrates.

What substrates can the membrane be applied over?

Suitable substrates include concrete, masonry, cement backerboard, gypsum-fiber panels, and gypsum-based cement toppings.

Does the membrane bond directly to drains?

Yes. It bonds directly to stainless steel, PVC, and ABS drains.

Does USG Durock Liquid Waterproofing Membrane meet ANSI standards?

Yes. It conforms to ANSI A118.10 for load-bearing bonded waterproof membranes and ANSI A118.12 for crack isolation membranes.
