HDAC removes sanded grout haze, mortar residue, joint cement, lime and hard-water deposits, efflorescence, rust, and heavy dirt or grime. It is intended for demanding post-installation and restoration cleaning on compatible textured, non-polished surfaces rather than the light soil normally handled by a routine maintenance cleaner.

Approved surfaces include flamed or honed granite, tumbled or honed marble, cleft or honed slate, flamed or honed limestone, quarry tile, ceramic and unglazed ceramic tile, porcelain tile, sanded grout, cast stone, concrete, and masonry. All surfaces must be non-polished and able to tolerate acidic cleaning.

No. HDAC is formulated for textured, non-polished, acid-resistant materials. Acids and their vapors can etch, lighten, or alter tile, grout, cementitious materials, and natural stone, so polished or acid-sensitive surfaces should not be treated. Complete inconspicuous test patches before proceeding with any larger area.

Begin with one part HDAC to 10 parts water and reduce the water to as little as three parts when a stronger solution is required. Pre-wet the surface, work in small areas, agitate for one to five minutes, and never allow the cleaner to dry on the material.

After cleaning, extract all dirty solution with a wet vacuum and rinse thoroughly with clean water. The manufacturer then directs users to rinse with Tile & Stone Cleaner diluted 20 to 1 in clean water to remove remaining residue and neutralize the acid before the surface dries.

Rust-Oleum's current product page lists approximately 2,000 to 4,000 square feet per gallon at standard dilution, equal to roughly 500 to 1,000 square feet per quart. Actual coverage depends on surface density, porosity, texture, absorption, dwell time, dilution strength, and application method.

Allow new grout, concrete, cement, or masonry to cure for the period specified by its manufacturer before using HDAC. Repeated acid washing can damage certain materials, so this concentrated acidic cleaner should be reserved for compatible restoration and construction cleanup rather than used as an everyday maintenance cleaner.

HDAC contains hydrochloric acid. Use it only with strong ventilation while wearing chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection, and an appropriate respirator, and avoid inhalation or skin contact. Never mix it with ammonia-based cleaners, avoid metals, heat, and open flames, and keep children and pets away until the area is completely dry.
