Product Information
The GoBoard® Pipe Collar seals around 1/2" to 3/4" plumbing penetrations in tiled shower walls and ceilings. Its preformed center opening fits closely around compatible pipes, helping direct water away from the penetration and maintain continuity in the waterproofing layer behind the tile.
A molded waterproof collar is bonded to polypropylene non-woven fabric, creating a flexible accessory that conforms around the pipe and connects with the surrounding waterproofing surface. The preformed design provides a controlled seal without cutting loose membrane around the penetration.
The Pipe Collar works with GoBoard Membrane, GoBoard, and GoBoard Pro. Its fabric surface bonds with modified or unmodified thin-set mortar, allowing the pipe seal to become part of the surrounding GoBoard shower waterproofing assembly.
Common Questions
The Pipe Collar seals the waterproofing layer around a plumbing pipe that passes through a tiled shower wall or ceiling. Its molded center collar fits around the pipe while the surrounding fabric bonds to the GoBoard surface, helping prevent the penetration from becoming a break in the waterproofing assembly.
The collar is designed for 1/2" to 3/4" pipe penetrations. Because nominal pipe size and actual outside diameter can differ by pipe material and fitting, confirm the diameter where the collar will sit before installation. This helps ensure the molded opening can seal properly.
The collar is intended for plumbing penetrations in tiled shower walls and ceilings, including compatible shower-arm or overhead pipe locations. It is not a pipe fitting or plumbing repair product. Its purpose is to waterproof the surrounding tile assembly where the pipe passes through.
The Pipe Collar is approved for use with GoBoard Membrane, standard GoBoard tile backer board, and GoBoard Pro. Its surrounding fabric must be fully connected to the selected GoBoard waterproofing surface so the pipe penetration becomes part of the continuous system.
The collar can be bonded with unmodified dry-set mortar meeting ANSI A118.1 or polymer-modified thin-set mortar meeting ANSI A118.4. Embed the fabric completely, remove excess mortar, and eliminate voids or air pockets according to the published GoBoard installation instructions.
The Pipe Collar is included within the GoBoard Membrane accessory system covered by ICC-ES PMG-1439, which lists compliance with TCNA/ANSI A118.10. The listing applies to the assembled system when installed according to GoBoard instructions, rather than treating the collar as a standalone waterproofing system.
GoBoard documentation permits same-day tile installation within its membrane system. The Pipe Collar must first be properly embedded with full mortar coverage, and all setting-material requirements must be followed. Flood testing or additional waterproofing steps must observe the applicable mortar or sealant curing instructions.
The official instructions approve the Pipe Collar for GoBoard Membrane, GoBoard, and GoBoard Pro. Compatibility with another manufacturer’s sheet membrane should not be assumed. Use the penetration accessory and bonding material specified by the selected waterproofing system when working outside a GoBoard assembly.
