Product Information
Blanke® PERMAT is a reinforcing underlayment that strengthens wood substrates and reduces deflection beneath tile and natural stone installations. Its layered mesh construction provides high compressive and tensile strength while also providing crack isolation through uncoupling.
Each lightweight panel features a mesh overhang that connects adjacent panels without separate seam tape. The overlapping mesh helps transfer substrate movement stress across the installation while providing resistance to delamination during installation.
PERMAT can be installed over interior plywood, OSB, and cement subfloors. For tile over wood framing with joists spaced 16" to 24" on center, a minimum 3/4" subfloor is required. Natural stone installations require a 3/4" subfloor with joists spaced 16" to 19" on center; at 24" spacing, an additional 3/8" layer is required.
PERMAT installs fleece-side down into thinset mortar applied with a 1/4" x 1/4" notched trowel. Panels are installed with overlapping mesh and a minimum 3" offset pattern. Tile can be installed immediately after the underlayment is placed, with no extended cure time required for latex-modified thinset mortar beneath porcelain tile.
Common Questions
PERMAT is a reinforcing underlayment for interior tile and natural stone installations. It strengthens wood substrates, reduces deflection, and provides crack isolation through uncoupling.
Yes. PERMAT can be installed over plywood and OSB subfloors as well as cement subfloors.
For tile installations with joists spaced 16" to 24" on center, a minimum 3/4" plywood or OSB subfloor is required.
Natural stone requires a 3/4" subfloor with joists spaced 16" to 19" on center. With joists spaced 24" on center, an additional 3/8" layer is required.
No. The panels have a mesh overhang that connects adjacent panels, eliminating the need for separate seam tape.
Yes. Tile can be installed immediately after PERMAT is installed. No extended cure time is required for latex-modified thinset mortar beneath porcelain tile.
Blanke specifies applying loosely mixed thinset mortar to the substrate with a 1/4" x 1/4" notched trowel before installing PERMAT fleece-side down.
