About This Product
Water-Based Primer with Oil-Based Performance
Zinsser® SmartPrime® is a water-based modified acrylic primer, sealer, stain blocker, and bond coat for interior and exterior surfaces. Designed for professional and commercial applications, it combines strong stain blocking and adhesion with the fast drying and easy application of a water-based primer.
Adhesion to Glossy and Difficult Surfaces
SmartPrime bonds to glossy surfaces without scuff sanding and adheres to wood, drywall, plaster, concrete, masonry, metal, glass, tile, PVC, vinyl, fiberglass, hardboard, and other paintable surfaces. It also bonds to moderately chalky surfaces and seals porous materials to help topcoats achieve more uniform coverage and sheen.
Stain Blocking and Mold-Resistant Protection
Proprietary stain-blocking resins help block water, smoke, cedar and redwood bleed, grease, handprints, asphalt, crayon, graffiti, and rust stains. The dried primer film is also resistant to mold and mildew.
Fast Drying for Interior and Exterior Projects
SmartPrime can be recoated in 1 hour, helping reduce downtime between priming and painting. It can also be tinted with up to 2 oz. of universal colorant per gallon to help improve topcoat hiding. SmartPrime is not recommended for floors, decks, roofs, or surfaces exposed to immersion or prolonged water contact.
