Product Information
Blanke® AQUA SHIELD is a thin polyethylene waterproofing membrane with fleece bonded to both sides for installation with thinset mortar. It waterproofs walls and floors while forming a vapor barrier, making it suitable for showers, bathrooms, steam rooms, saunas, locker rooms, and other continuous wet areas.
Tile and stone can be installed immediately after the membrane is applied, eliminating the cure time associated with liquid-applied waterproofing products. The membrane maintains a consistent thickness and provides high tensile strength along with crack isolation and uncoupling properties beneath tiled surfaces.
AQUA SHIELD is suitable for interior and exterior applications, including exterior decks, patios, balconies, and terraces not located over occupied space. It can be bonded to suitable dry, flat, structurally sound substrates including plywood, drywall, backer board, and cement surfaces.
Adjacent membrane sections can be overlapped by at least 2" and bonded with thinset mortar. For constantly or extremely wet conditions, BLANKE AQUA SEAL waterproof adhesive can be used at overlapped seams. Sections can also be butted together and waterproofed with AQUA SHIELD DB tape, while AQUA SHIELD SA self-adhesive tape provides a peel-and-stick option for sealing seams.
The membrane resists microorganisms, deterioration, rot, saline solutions, acids, alkaline solutions, many organic solvents, alcohol, and oils. Its polyethylene film is approximately 0.008" thick with fleece on both sides to support bonding to the substrate and tile assembly.
Common Questions
Yes. AQUA SHIELD is a waterproofing membrane for tile and stone installations and also forms a vapor barrier.
Yes. Its waterproofing and vapor barrier properties make it suitable for steam rooms, saunas, showers, bathrooms, and other continuous wet areas.
Tile can be installed immediately after the membrane is installed, without waiting for the cure time associated with liquid-applied waterproofing products.
Suitable substrates include plywood, drywall, backer board, and cement surfaces that are clean, flat, dry, and structurally sound.
The membrane is bonded to the prepared substrate with thinset mortar using a 1/4" x 3/16" V-notched trowel. The membrane should be pressed into the mortar with full contact and without trapped air pockets.
Adjacent sheets can be overlapped by at least 2" and bonded with thinset. Depending on the application, seams can also be treated with compatible Blanke seam tape or AQUA SEAL waterproof adhesive.
Yes. It is suitable for applications including exterior decks, patios, balconies, and terraces that are not located over occupied space.
Yes. The membrane provides crack isolation and uncoupling properties in addition to waterproofing.
