Product Information
wedi® Building Panel is a lightweight, waterproof tile backer board for shower and tub surrounds, floors over wood or concrete subfloors, countertops, backsplashes, and tiled seats and benches. The 1/8" panel also creates a thermal break and provides insulation value when installed over floors.
The panel uses a high-load extruded polystyrene foam core with a closed-cell structure that is internally waterproof, mold-proof, and insulating. Both sides are reinforced with fiberglass mesh embedded in a cement resin coating for tile backing strength and controlled surface moisture absorption.
The reinforced surface provides a flat, even tile substrate with a waffle-pattern texture that allows thin-set mortar to mechanically bond to the panel. In wet-area installations, the panel combines tile backing and waterproofing into one product, reducing the materials and installation steps required compared with cement board followed by liquid waterproofing.
