Why Choose This Product
Waterproof closed-cell foam core eliminates the need for separate topical waterproofing across the panel surface
Fiberglass mesh and cement resin coating provide a reinforced surface for thin-set mortar
Foam core provides insulation value when installed over wood or concrete subfloors
Closed-cell extruded polystyrene foam does not support mold
Suitable for tiled walls, floors, countertops, backsplashes, seats and benches
Combines tile backing and waterproofing into one panel for wet-area installations
Product Information
wedi® Building Panels are waterproof tile backer boards with a closed-cell extruded polystyrene foam core. The core is waterproof, mold-proof, and insulating, making the panels suitable for tiled shower and tub surrounds and other wet-area applications.
Both sides of the panel feature fiberglass mesh embedded in a cement resin coating. The reinforced surface provides tile backing strength while its waffle-pattern texture gives thin-set mortar a surface to mechanically bond to.
Building Panels can be used for tiled shower and tub walls, floors over wood or concrete subfloors, countertops, kitchen backsplashes, and custom tiled seats and benches. On floors, the foam core also creates a thermal break and provides insulation value.
In wet-area installations, wedi Building Panels combine tile backing and waterproofing in one panel rather than requiring cement board followed by a separate liquid waterproofing system. This reduces installation steps, curing time, and labor.
Common Questions
Yes. wedi Building Panels have a closed-cell extruded polystyrene foam core that is internally waterproof.
Yes. They are designed for tiled shower and tub wall surrounds and can be used as part of a wedi shower system.
Yes. They can be used under tile over wood and concrete subfloors. The foam core creates a thermal break and provides insulation value.
They can be used for tiled countertops, kitchen backsplashes, and construction of tiled seats and benches in wet areas.
Both sides are reinforced with fiberglass mesh embedded in a cement resin coating. The surface has a waffle-pattern structure that provides a bonding surface for thin-set mortar.
The panel itself is waterproof. Wet-area assemblies must still be installed and sealed at seams, fastener penetrations, transitions, and other required connection points according to the applicable wedi installation instructions.
