About This Product
Waterproof Tileable Tub and Shower Walls
The wedi® Tub & Shower Wall Kit provides the primary components needed to build a waterproof, tile-ready wall surround for showers and tubs. The system combines waterproof wedi Building Panels with joint sealant, plumbing penetration seals, fasteners, and an installation tool to create a complete wall assembly ready for tile installation.
Waterproof Building Panels for Wet Areas
The kit includes five 36" × 60" × 1/2" wedi Building Panels for constructing the wall surround. Each panel has a closed-cell extruded polystyrene foam core that is waterproof, mold-proof, and insulating, making it suitable for continuously exposed wet-area applications such as tiled showers and tub surrounds.
Reinforced, Tile-Ready Panel Surface
Both sides of each Building Panel are covered with fiberglass mesh embedded in a cement resin coating. This reinforced surface provides the strength required to support tile while the textured waffle-pattern surface gives thin-set mortar a suitable surface for mechanical bonding. Once the waterproof connections are completed, tile can be installed directly over the panels.
Waterproof Seams, Fasteners and Connections
Five wedi Joint Sealant cartridges are included for waterproofing, bonding, and reinforcing panel joints, seams, connections, and fastener points. The single-component Silyl Modified Polymer (SMP) sealant provides strong initial adhesion while remaining permanently flexible after curing, allowing the individual system components to form a continuous waterproof wall assembly.
Pipe and Mixing Valve Penetration Seals
The included wedi Subliner Dry Pipe Seal and Mixing Valve Seal provide dedicated waterproofing around common plumbing penetrations in the shower or tub wall. These components integrate with the wall system to protect vulnerable openings where plumbing passes through the waterproof assembly.
Compatible with Tubs and Multiple Shower Base Systems
The wall kit can be used with wedi shower projects as well as prefabricated acrylic or stone shower bases, conventional tubs, and mortar bed installations. This allows the waterproof wedi wall system to be used independently of the shower floor or tub configuration instead of requiring a complete wedi shower base system.
Installation Components Included
In addition to the five Building Panels and five Joint Sealant cartridges, the kit includes a wedi Fastener Kit, Subliner Dry Pipe Seal, Subliner Dry Mixing Valve Seal, and Corner Putty Knife.
