About This Product

Uncoupling Membrane for WarmWire Floor Heating

SunTouch® WarmWire® HeatMatrix® is a polypropylene uncoupling membrane designed to simplify the installation of WarmWire electric floor heating cables beneath tile. Raised shapes secure the heating cable at approximately 3" increments while allowing spacing to be adjusted for different heating requirements.

Crack Isolation and Substrate Movement Protection

A non-woven fleece layer on the underside of the membrane helps reduce shear stress caused by lateral and multi-directional substrate movement, minimizing stress transferred to the tile installation. HeatMatrix meets ANSI A118.12 requirements for substrate crack isolation, uncoupling, point load, and mold resistance.

Waterproofing and Vapor Management

HeatMatrix provides a barrier against surface water while channels beneath the membrane allow moisture and vapor pressure to dissipate. This vapor management makes the membrane suitable for below-grade installations over concrete. In areas exposed to surface water, membrane joints should be sealed with HeatMatrix joint strip.

Adjustable WarmWire Cable Spacing

WarmWire can be installed at the standard spacing of approximately 3" or adjusted to change heat output. Cable spacing can alternate between 2 and 3 raised shapes for higher heat output or between 3 and 4 shapes for lower output, providing flexibility based on the heating requirements of the installation.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SunTouch WarmWire HeatMatrix used for?

HeatMatrix is an uncoupling membrane used to install SunTouch WarmWire electric floor heating cables beneath tile while providing crack isolation, waterproofing, and vapor management.

How is WarmWire spaced in the HeatMatrix membrane?

The membrane secures WarmWire at approximately 3" spacing. The cable can also alternate between 2 and 3 raised shapes for higher heat output or between 3 and 4 shapes for lower output.

Can HeatMatrix be installed below grade?

Yes. Channels beneath the membrane allow moisture and vapor pressure to dissipate, making HeatMatrix suitable for below-grade installations over concrete.

Is SunTouch HeatMatrix waterproof?

Yes. The membrane provides a barrier against surface water. In areas exposed to surface water, HeatMatrix joints should be sealed with HeatMatrix joint strip.

How does HeatMatrix help prevent cracked tile?

The non-woven fleece layer helps reduce shear stress transferred from lateral and multi-directional movement in the substrate to the tile installation.

Does HeatMatrix meet ANSI A118.12 requirements?

Yes. HeatMatrix meets ANSI A118.12 requirements for uncoupling, substrate crack isolation, point load, and mold resistance.
