About This Product

Exterior Wood Protection Against Decay and Insects

Rust-Oleum® Woodlife® CreoCoat® Black Wood Preservative is a water-based exterior wood preservative and insecticide pre-treatment for pressure-treated and untreated wood. When applied as directed, it protects against termites, powder post beetles, other wood-boring insects, and decay fungi including mold, mildew, and rot.

Ground Contact and Moisture-Exposed Applications

CreoCoat can be used for below-ground, ground-contact, fresh-water-contact, and above-ground applications. It is suitable for lumber and plywood used for landscape timbers, railroad ties, fence posts, poles, pickets, rails, construction posts, foundation sills, siding, shakes, roofs, windows, frames, and exterior doors.

Moisture Protection and Dimensional Stability

Anti-wicking properties resist moisture absorption and movement through the wood, helping control swelling, shrinking, warping, splitting, and end checking. The water-based formula cleans up with soap and water after application.

Creosote-Like Black Finish

The preservative gives treated wood a long-lasting creosote-like black color that will fade over time. Treated surfaces can be topcoated with paint or stain when a different finished appearance is desired.

Application Limitations

CreoCoat is not intended for decks, outdoor furniture, seating surfaces, or other wood exposed to heavy foot traffic. Treated wood should not be used where it may contact food, feed, or potable water.
