About This Product

Protection Against Rot, Decay and Wood-Boring Insects

Rust-Oleum® Woodlife® CopperCoat™ Green Wood Preservative is an EPA-registered insecticidal wood preservative for exterior untreated and pressure-treated wood. It protects against rot and decay while preventing attack from termites, powder post beetles, and other wood-boring insects.

Ground Contact, Freshwater Contact and Above-Ground Use

CopperCoat can be used on all species of untreated or pressure-treated lumber and plywood in below-ground, ground-contact, freshwater-contact, and above-ground installations. Applications include docks, piers, fence posts, poles, rails, foundation sills, stairs, porches, landscape timbers, planters, arbors, gazebos, sheds, shingles, and other exterior wood exposed to moisture or wood-destroying insects.

End-Cut Protection for Pressure-Treated Lumber

The preservative is recommended for treating end cuts on pressure-treated lumber, particularly for deck construction. Its anti-wicking properties resist moisture absorption through end cuts to help control swelling, shrinking, warping, splitting, and end-checking. To comply with AWPA M-4 Standard, CopperCoat should be applied to end cuts, holes, and damaged areas of pressure-treated lumber.

Paintable and Stainable Preservative Primer

The transparent natural green finish can be overcoated with an oil-based primer, paint, or stain, allowing CopperCoat to serve as a preservative primer on exterior windows, doors, frames, millwork, trim, siding, shakes, and shingles. Its water-based formula cleans up with soap and water.

Application Requirements

For wood installed in ground or freshwater contact, CopperCoat should be applied as a pretreatment before installation. Do not tint, dilute, or mix the preservative with other products, and do not apply it at sites on or near water or wetlands.
