About This Product

Fast-Acting Phosphoric Acid Cleaner

Miracle Sealants® Phosphoric Acid Cleaner uses a fast-acting acidic formula to remove difficult cementitious residue, mineral deposits and accumulated grime from compatible hard surfaces. Because phosphoric acid is milder than many other acidic cleaners, it gives tile installers, restoration professionals and property owners a practical option for demanding cleanup without immediately moving to a stronger acid.

Grout Haze and Mortar Residue Remover

After tile, concrete or masonry work, cement grout haze, mortar residue and joint cement can leave a cloudy or uneven appearance across the finished surface. This grout haze remover targets those cementitious deposits so they can be agitated and rinsed away, helping reveal the intended appearance of compatible tile, grout, concrete and masonry installations.

Efflorescence, Rust and Mineral Deposit Removal

Phosphoric Acid Cleaner also works as an efflorescence remover and rust remover for compatible surfaces affected by mineral-related staining. Its acidic cleaning action removes lime, hard-water deposits, mineral buildup, rust stains, dirt and grime, making it useful for restoration work where ordinary maintenance cleaners cannot adequately break down the accumulated deposits.

Milder Acid Cleaning Across Compatible Hard Surfaces

The dilutable formula can be used on precast concrete, concrete and porcelain pavers, brick, mortar, masonry, sanded grout, quarry tile, unglazed ceramic tile and porcelain tile. It also supports selected non-polished natural stone finishes, including flamed or honed granite and limestone, cleft or honed slate, and tumbled or honed marble. Interior and exterior compatibility extends its usefulness from floors and masonry to fountains and swimming pool surfaces.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Miracle Sealants Phosphoric Acid Cleaner remove?

It removes cementitious grout haze, mortar residue, joint cement, efflorescence, rust, lime, hard-water deposits, mineral buildup, dirt and grime. This makes it useful for post-installation cleanup and restorative cleaning when compatible concrete, masonry, grout, tile or non-polished stone has developed difficult residue.

Which surfaces can Phosphoric Acid Cleaner be used on?

Compatible surfaces include precast and cast concrete, concrete or porcelain pavers, brick, mortar, masonry, sanded grout, quarry tile, unglazed ceramic tile, porcelain tile and selected non-polished natural stone. Approved finishes include flamed or honed granite and limestone, cleft or honed slate, and tumbled or honed marble.

Can this cleaner be used on polished or acid-sensitive stone?

No. The manufacturer specifically warns against using Phosphoric Acid Cleaner on polished or acid-sensitive surfaces. Even mild acid and its vapors may etch, lighten or alter the color of tile, cementitious materials and natural stone, so inconspicuous testing and confirmation of compatibility are essential.

Can Phosphoric Acid Cleaner be used on newly installed grout or concrete?

New grout, concrete, cement and masonry must cure according to their respective manufacturer's specifications before the cleaner is used. The data sheet does not provide one universal waiting period because cure requirements vary by installation product, material and environmental conditions.

How should Phosphoric Acid Cleaner be diluted and rinsed?

Miracle Sealants recommends starting with 15 parts water to one part cleaner and reducing the water to as little as three parts for a stronger solution. The treated area must remain wet during cleaning and be thoroughly rinsed afterward. Follow the current label for complete application and neutralization instructions.

How much area does Phosphoric Acid Cleaner cover?

Coverage depends on surface density, porosity, texture, absorption, weather, dwell time, dilution and application method. The manufacturer estimates approximately 500 to 2,500 square feet per gallon when used as directed. Stronger mixtures and heavily affected surfaces generally provide less coverage than lighter cleaning applications.

What precautions are required when using this acidic cleaner?

Do not mix Phosphoric Acid Cleaner with ammoniated cleaners because harmful fumes may result. Avoid contact with metal and protect wood, carpet, leather, vinyl and other incompatible materials. Use acid-resistant protective equipment and adequate ventilation while following the current label and safety data sheet.

Does Phosphoric Acid Cleaner seal the surface after cleaning?

No. The product removes construction and mineral residue but does not provide ongoing stain or water protection. After the compatible surface has been cleaned, neutralized and dried, Miracle Sealants recommends applying an appropriate penetrating sealer or impregnator when protection from future soiling and staining is desired.
